Texture

The surface is stippled by hand, one strike at a time, until the silver carries a grain you can feel with a thumbnail.

Tarnish

A liver of sulfur patina darkens the whole piece, then the high spots get polished back so the letters sit bright against it.

Inlay

Crushed black tourmaline and opal, flooded into the channel, cured, ground flush, and polished until the face reads as one.

The mark on the toast

If you've spent time down front at a bass show, you know the toast. A slice of bread carrying two letters: dB. The initials, and the unit the soundsystem gets measured in. It's the kind of double meaning that sticks, and it's all over this scene - on hats, on pins, drawn in marker on coolers across festival campgrounds. Daily Bread builds his sets out of old soul records chopped over serious low end, music that feels warm and heavy at the same time. I wanted a version of that mark with the same two qualities, so I carved one and poured it in solid sterling at my bench in Denver.

Texture and tarnish

On the Texture / Tarnished pieces, the finish does the talking. I stipple the face by hand until the silver has a grain like a toasted crust, then hit the whole piece with liver of sulfur - an old silversmith's patina that turns the metal dark. Polishing the high spots back brings the letters and edges up bright against the shadow. The treatment runs on both sizes: the large toast slice, and the small DB that's about the size of a dime.

Stone on the slice

The inlay versions trade texture for fire. On the large toast I pack the channel with crushed black tourmaline and cap it with crushed opal, so the face sits near-black until the light moves and the opal sparks. The small dB carries opal accents the same way. Every pour is mixed by hand, which means no two land alike - the photos are honest, but these are pieces that earn their keep under stage lights.

Pick your own stones

Want the toast in your own colors? Every background stone and crushed opal on my bench is photographed in the stone catalog - pick a mix there and take it straight to a piece, or describe what you're picturing through the custom order form and I'll build around it.

The fine print, honestly

These are fan tribute pieces made by one person in Denver. I'm not affiliated with Daily Bread or his team - every design here is an original carve, inspired by the culture around the music and made for the people who carry it. Each piece is solid 925 sterling silver, never plated, never hollow. In-stock pieces ship in 3-5 business days; made-to-order work runs 2-3 weeks. Shipping is a flat $10 USPS Priority anywhere in the US. All sales are final, but if something arrives with a craftsmanship issue, I'll make it right - details on the shipping and returns page. The rest of my work for the scene lives on the Phish page, the lot-style page, the Pretty Lights page, the Dogs In A Pile page, the Magic Beans page, and the full homepage grid. If you want a toast or dB piece in your own colours, the stone catalog shows every bag on the bench and the stone meanings guide is a decent place to start.
